Water in Basement
Challenge
This home in Vestal, New York has had water in the basement and crawlspace for as long as the homeowner could remember. Broome County can have a very high water table even without the added heavy rains of Spring. She had a company come out and propose a simple sump pump and 6 mil plastic solution. When she asked how the water from the rest of the crawlspace would get to the sump pump in the basement, the representative told her they could dig a trench if she wanted. This homeowner had already received the customer information packet from Foam It and had read It so she knew this wasn't a great solution.
Solution
When Foam It’s specialist "Eric" arrived for the free Basement and crawl space inspection, the homeowner was ready with the same questions. Foam It uses a high quality drainage system that we call Hydrostatic Pressure Relief System. It is a 4" pipe that has slots cut into it instead of large holes. The idea is to let water in but keep out dirt and debris. The Hydrostatic Pressure Relief System is rigid so the pipe will lay flat and allow all the water to flow smoothly to the sump pump. What's better is that Foam It uses a system of clean out ports which allow for easy flushing of the pipes, just in case they happen to get dirt inside. The homeowner chose to install a SuperSump system because it was a large amount of water and she often loses power in thunderstorms. The SuperSump system with a battery backup sump pump to keep things flowing when the power is out. She also chose to install the CleanSpace vapor barrier because she understood the importance of sealing out the moisture in the dirt. and had us spray foam her basement and crawl space walls to help keep her home more comfortable in the winter When the job was finished, she knew that Foam It was the right company for her. Kelly says still to this day that her basement is dry and and fresher smelling.
