First thing our production crew did for the attic was to air seal. Top plates, around wire penetrations, even around can light fixtures were sealed so air cannot escape through the roof of the home. Once we finished air sealing, we did an open blow of our TruSoft cellulose insulation to give an R value of 60, which ended up being around 18" of cellulose insulation. An added benefit to our cellulose is it's mixed with borate, a natural ground element that is fire retardant, but it also is a natural deterrant for rodents.
